Why transiting through Moldova comes up at all

Civilian air traffic over Ukraine has been closed since 2022, so foreign workers travelling to Ukraine for employment usually can't fly directly to their destination. One common route is flying into Chișinău, Moldova, and then crossing the Moldova–Ukraine border overland. For citizens of some countries, that route requires a separate Moldovan transit visa — and that's what we help arrange.

What the Moldova transit e-visa is

It's an electronic visa that can be applied for remotely, without an in-person consulate visit, if the candidate's citizenship is on the list eligible for that format. The visa is issued for a specific purpose — transit through Moldovan territory — and has a limited validity tied to the travel dates.

Who needs a transit visa

Whether a transit visa is required depends on the candidate's citizenship, departure country, and chosen route — there's no single yes/no answer without those details, and the list of eligible countries and entry conditions can change. That's why we always verify the current requirements individually, before the candidate books tickets.

What documents are needed to apply

The standard e-visa package usually includes a passport, proof of travel purpose and route (tickets or a booking), and documents confirming onward travel to Ukraine — for example, an employer invitation or confirmation that a type D work visa is being processed (see Type D Work Visa). We check the package is complete before filing, to reduce the risk of rejection or delay.

Processing timelines

An e-visa is generally processed faster than a standard consular visa procedure, but exact timelines depend on current workload and the applicant's specific situation. We plan the filing well ahead of the departure date rather than at the last minute.

How this fits into the overall legalization route

The Moldova transit visa isn't a goal in itself — it's one logistical piece of the candidate's route into Ukraine. We coordinate its timing with the type D visa dates and the planned entry date, so all documents and tickets line up, and the candidate never ends up in a situation where one document has expired while another still isn't ready.
